Stanford, of course, is among the schools that have stayed in frequent contact with the three-star offensive lineman. Since Shuler visited The Farm last month, he's made it a point to maintain contact with Stanford's coaches.
"It's been really good," said Shuler of his contact with the Cardinal. "We stay in pretty good contact. I email with them. I actually emailed with them a little bit today, with Coach Sanford and Coach Bloomgren."
When The Bootleg previously spoke with Shuler following his Stanford trip, Shuler said the Cardinal stood in excellent position. That hasn't changed, although Shuler is open to the recent influx of other schools.
"I'd definitely say I'm still wide open and very interested in a couple of programs and trying to figure out what's going on," Shuler said. "I have kind of come out and named Stanford as my frontrunner. Maybe not necessarily as my favorite, but they've kind of been my No. 1 that's piqued my interest. But I don't necessarily have a top-three or a top-five at this point."
"I get a great vibe from that [Stanford] coaching staff and those guys, and I really like the opportunities I would have there," Shuler said. "There are still a lot of great schools that I'm interested in and I'm definitely still weighing my options. I really just want to find the place that's best for me for the next five years and will be the best for my family and will be the best for me in the long run."
As such, Shuler has pushed back his decision timeframe, albeit only slightly, to accommodate the new interest.
"I'll take a couple [visits] this summer then I'll hopefully make a decision mid-July," Shuler said.
In the meantime, Shuler might have a chance to sink his teeth into Stanford's admissions process. He reports a 3.35 GPA (albeit one on the rise – his most recent semester GPA was a 3.9) and is waiting for semester grades to come in before possibly starting the Stanford application.
"We've definitely talked about it," Shuler said. "I'm not sure what all is possible, but we've talked about that and it really depends on my grades that come back for this semester and what happens there."
