The three-star recruit and his parents flew to the Bay Area early Saturday morning and departed on Sunday. Before the game, Martinez participated in a variety of trip activities, including spending time with fellow recruits like Andrus Peat, Alex Carter, Graham Shuler, and Kodi Whitfield.
"We went to the auditorium and Condoleeza Rice talked to us, which was really cool," Martinez said. "We talked about the nutrition part with Coach Turley. After that we went to the tailgate, hung out with other recruits, met some of the guys who already committed."
Martinez said Rice's presentation centered on life as a Stanford student-athlete.
"She talked about how to not focus on one thing that you want to be and she talked about how Stanford was going to be very beneficial to us, not just the sports aspect, and professors will give us 100 percent dedication," Martinez said. "Also, that they are willing to work with us."
Later, Martinez made his way to Stanford Stadium to take in the game. He was blown away by the raucous crowd and atmosphere.
"The atmosphere was crazy," Martinez said. "Walking out of the tunnel with the team felt like I was playing, kind of. Just how many fans were there and screaming."
Martinez, who reports his verbal commitment to the Cardinal is as solid as ever, is nearing the final stages on his Stanford application.
"When I was up there I was asking questions about the essay to the administration people and they answered my questions to help me understand the essay process," Martinez said. "I need to work on my essays a little more, and then when I get my scores back, I'll send in everything."
Martinez will take another unofficial visit to The Farm when Stanford plays Notre Dame later this month and then take his official trip for the Cardinal's big recruiting weekend in January.
