DB Tillman awaits admissions announcement

Louisiana defensive back Jontrey Tillman has been committed to Stanford since June, but took his first visit to Palo Alto in November for the Notre Dame game. With signing day weeks away, The Bootleg checked in with the two-star prospect earlier this week to get the latest in his recruitment.

Jontrey Tillman took his official visit to Stanford in late November for the Notre Dame game. His first trip to The Farm was a success.

"I didn't know the campus was that good, it was that much of a great place," Tillman said. "I was very surprised. I felt at home while I was there.

"The weather really was a standout. The campus was nice, the facilities were great. All the players there, they were good people."

Tilman took another step toward signing with Stanford in November, when he submitted most of his application. He's expecting to hear back from the admissions office soon.

"I should know if I'm admitted in a couple of weeks," Tillman said. "I had submitted most of it [the application] in November and I just needed my guidance counselor to send the letter of recommendation in."

Like it does for many Cardinal prospects, Tillman's admissions decision will likely determine his college destination. If admitted, it's unlikely he'll end up anywhere but Stanford.

"The only thing that would stop me is not being admitted, I think, but I'm pretty solid on Stanford," Tillman said. "I have no other schools in my mind right now."

As such, Tillman doesn't have any visits to other schools currently scheduled.

"I probably won't be taking any other visits," Tillman said. "I wouldn't want to waste my time going to any other schools knowing that I wouldn't want to go there."

Tillman has received interest from a number of other schools during his recruitment. He reports interest from LSU, Mississippi State, New Mexico, Memphis, SMU, Texas A&M, and Pittsburgh.

LSU showed particularly strong interest shortly after Tillman committed last summer, but an offer never materialized.

"I went to LSU and they talked about offering me, that was at the time I had just committed to Stanford," Tillman said. "I'm still pretty strong on my decision to commit to Stanford so contact has been very limited with other schools. They know I'm pretty strong on my commitment.

Tillman has gotten a head start on bonding with his future teammates. The recruit has been in touch with nearly all of Stanford's 16 other class of 2012 verbal commitments.

"We all talk," Tillman said. "All those guys are great. The only person I haven't really talked to is Barry [Sanders], but I'm sure I'll get a chance to talk to him."

Tillman is glad Sanders will be joining him on The Farm next fall.

"That was pretty neat," Tillman said. "I'm glad that we got him."
