2002-03 Honor Roll: Logan Tom

The third winner of our prestigious Honor Roll award is volleyball's Logan Tom. Again, thi should be no surprise as Logan was a dominating collegiate player and is currently playing on the U.S. National Team.

In the May/June issue of The Bootleg Magazine (re-published on TheBootleg.com in late-June), we introduced The Bootleg Honor Roll and also released a list of 30 finalists for this award for the 2002/2003 school-year. Here is a link to that story.

The criteria are as follows:

Each academic year, The Bootleg's Honor Roll will recognize the top ten Stanford student-athletes who have performed at an exceptional level, with athletic accomplishments that are both extraordinary and inspirational. While achieving athletic success, these athletes should also have displayed uncommon leadership, sportsmanship and respect towards their fellow teammates and opponents. Finally, these honorees' performances and actions should also demonstrate their love for their particular sport as well as their school pride, the famed "Spirit of Stanford."

During the month of July, we will be releasing the 10 winners of this prestigious award, one by one. The announced winners so far are baseball catcher Ryan Garko and water polo's Tony Azevedo.

The third recipient of The Bootleg Honor Roll award is volleyball outside hitter Logan Tom. The Salt Lake City, Utah native was honored as Pac-10 Player of the Year in 2002, becoming only the third player in league history to repeat. Tom led this year's squad in kills and digs per game and ended her career as the Cardinal's all-time kills leader. The Cardinal came within one game of capturing the NCAA title in 2002.

The 2000 Olympian was voted the Honda Award winner as the top female collegiate volleyball player last season. She is a two-time AVCA National Player of the Year winner and a four-time AVCA All-American. She was also named as one of five finalists for Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year for the 2002/2003 school year.

Tom is currently playing on the U.S. National Team and led them to a semi-final berth in the Eltsin Cup tournament in Russia in June.
