These words were overheard on Los Angeles talk radio Friday evening: "I don't think USC has seen the beast that Stanford is going to bring to the Coliseum."
Imagine hearing that just five years ago. Stanford enters kickoff against the Trojans with Rose Bowl and national title hopes still intact. They're winners of 15 straight games against other California schools. A win Saturday night would be the program's fifth consecutive against USC. That has never happened before.
The Cardinal are favored because they are stronger and tougher along both lines of scrimmage. The Trojans will counter with dangerous explosiveness, though, so a clean game will be important for the visitors to avoid an upset.
