As expected, David Shaw has named former outside linebackers coach Lance Anderson as Stanford's new defensive coordinator. Anderson replaces Derek Mason at the position, who left The Farm to be the head coach at Vanderbilt.
"Lance has worked under two of the best defensive minds in football in Vic Fangio and Derek Mason," Shaw said. "He will continue our defensive tradition of being aggressive, being physical, and setting the tone for how we play football here at Stanford University."
Anderson, who turned down an offer to be USF's defensive coordinator last offseason, has received considerable praise for his tireless work as the program's liaison to the Stanford admissions office. At this point, it's unclear whether or not he will retain all of his extensive recruiting duties in his new role at defensive coordinator.
