One of the top recruits in the 2016 class was on The Farm on Saturday for a visit. Caleb Kelly from Fresno says Stanford remains a possibility.
The 5-star outside linebacker has been courted by many of the top schools and currently holds offers from 23 universities. While Stanford didn't make Kelly's last top 12 list, he says it might make the next.
"After yesterday I would say I'm really interested. I would really like to put them on my list. They weren't previously but I told them to not give up. I'm still looking, going out there was a big eye opener so I do like them a lot."
Pete Alomar is the primary recruiter and Kelly says he has been in Fresno a few times during the process.
"I know he really wants me. He told me I'm never giving up until you tell me to give up. He's been real persistent. And he really wants me and you can tell they really do care."
The 6-foot-2, 220 pound outside linebacker who has toured the other schools in California, Michigan and Oklahoma to name a few, said he was very impressed by what Stanford has to offer.
"I liked it a lot. There is a lot to think about when you go to to Stanford. They are so organized. They had every hour, every half hour, what you are going to do, everything is the top of the top over there. You know when you are going to Stanford it is going to be different. Admissions is crazy hard. They tell you that is the hardest part. You talk to the players, you hang out with the players after and you truly believe that. It was just a real cool experience. It was a big eye opener to me going up to Stanford."
Another part that is bringing Stanford back into play for Kelly is the academic consideration.
"I've also been turned more toward my academics. It really hit me that football can really only last about 15 years in the NFL maximum. I just want to be able to live after and have something to fall back on. So academics has really stood out to me lately."
Kelly is quite clear that the NFL is his future plan, but the backup is under consideration for when that comes to an end.
"I'm thinking about going into communications because I dream about being a broadcaster after the NFL. Communications. Also sports Medicine, stay around football and maybe coach afterwards."
As for when Kelly will decide his future, it doesn't appear to be imminent. Right now he is just enjoying the entire process and having fun with it, including making his top 10 lists.
"My top ten, people that have stuck around the whole time, Oklahoma was my first offer. Michigan has been in both. TCU was in my first one, and I changed them out for USC. Cal is in my second one and I changed them out from Washington and that seemed to mess with people's head. Everyone is asking me about that. Me and my coach have just been deciding and looking at schools. we have visited every Pac-12 in California, Oklahoma, Michigan. We're planning on going to Notre Dame in June. We are okay with leaving California. It has just been a good process. It has been fun making these Top Tens and getting to meet all these coaches and all these future NFL players."
Whenever Kelly makes his next list, expect Stanford to be on it. That said, it seems like it would be a major coup for the Cardinal if they pick this 5-star linebacker up.
