It was good to be a Stanford fan on Monday.
That morning, four-star athlete Connor Wedington announced through a video produced by Bleacher Report that he had committed to the Cardinal. Monday night, Mobile (Ala.) defensive end Ryan Johnson committed as well, giving the David Shaw and co. the dominant edge rusher they had coveted.
The four-star recruit and Under Armour All-American chose the Cardinal over Auburn and Texas. He visited those three schools the past three weekends in that order.
Here is Scout’s analysis on Johnson:
Johnson is an athletic strongside defensive end. Strong at the point of attack and he plays with good leverage, pad level. Uses his arm length to shed blocks and get to the football. Can crash down the line. Plays with a high motor. Really moves well with good quickness off the ball. An advanced player for his age. Plays under control. Shows good balance.
Johnson is the fourth defensive commit of the 2017 class, joining three-star safety Stuart Head, three-star defensive tackle Dalyn Wade-Perry and three-star outside linebacker Levani Damuni, who will take a two-year LDS mission before getting on campus.
Johnson makes for the eighth Scout top-300 commit of the Cardinal’s 15 commits.
Four-star outside linebacker Leonard Warner is the final of the six undecided recruits who was in attendance for Stanford’s big visit weekend. The other five have all committed to Stanford.
