Oregon Preview

One thing you can bank on is that Saturday's Oregon affair won't have the low scoring that pervaded Thursday night's game in Corvallis. The Ducks are the leading offensive team in the conference, which puts the onus on Stanford's recently effective defense. But can the offense keep up with Ernie's guys?

The Dynamite Ducks

Game Time Saturday -- 3:00 pm -- Fox Sports Net

The Stanford Cardinal will need to play great defense and get back quickly in order to slow down the Ducks. Oregon leads the Conference in almost every offensive category (Points, 3 Point Percentage, Free Throw Percentage and Assists to mention a few). The Ducks also lead the conference in scoring margin at +20.2. Monty will spend the afternoon motioning his players to get back on defense and slow down on offense. Casey and Justin should be well rested while the Ducks logged in a lot of minutes (although they spent a lot of time watching teammates shoot lots of free throws).

Sophomore Luke Ridnour starts at the point. You want to see what Chris Hernandez could become by next year look at Luke. He can pop the 3, drive the lane, distributes the ball well and shoots free throws at an 85% clip. Rindour leads the teams in minutes.

Luke Jackson, Fredrick Jones and Anthony Lever share time at the wings. Ernie Kent has experimented having Jones coming off the bench as part of the "hustle team" who create havoc as the starters get a rest. These guys can shoot from the outside and like to get early shots in transition. Look for James Davis to come in to give the ducks a quicker pair of guards and move Jones to the forward position. The Ducks have a lot of outside weapons to say the least.

Robert Johnson starts at the power forward position and leads the teams in rebounds (7.9 pg). Not a great scorer but very workman like player. He is very comparable to Justin Davis. Chris "Why Me Lord" Christofferen starts at center. At 7-0 and 300 plus pounds he is a load. Only averages 20 minutes a game because of foul trouble and endurance. Brian Helquist backs up Christoffersen. The Cardinal needs to take advantage of their size in the post to win this game. The Ducks may try to go small inside and out quick the Cardinal and draw fouls (see cal game).

Keys to The Game

  • Get Back on Defense (Limit their transition Opportunities)
  • Patience on offense while at the same time taking advantage of fast break opportunities (there should be some)
  • Our wings need to screen out. Jones and Jackson will crash the boards (Michigan State was a good practice)
  • Need to contest every shot!
  • Connect when setting screens
  • Can our 3 headed point wear down Luke?
  • Play D with their feet
