Recruiting Update The "D" 1/23/02

We're headed down the home stretch. We have 15 verbals and we are waiting on at least two more. We have added an old name that is being offered as a walk-on. We have a couple more walk-on names … but we working on getting confirmation so we can report them to you. The staff (BT, Tip, MD) have done a great job holding down the fort and closing strong.

Weight: 255

Forty: 4.8

Schools: Texas, Texas A&M, Stanford, Notre Dame and Michigan

Offers: Texas, Michigan, Notre Dame, A&M

TheBootleg Says:

Tough to get a good read on. He has never claimed to have a leader. Sounds like he had a good visit.

Should be an exciting finish. Looks like TX and Mich are out. ND and Stanford battle.

What he's saying:

"The trip was good, I think Stanford has a great mix between academics and athletics," Leitko said. "I could associate with the players there really well. I also liked the faculty support they have. It seemed like the faculty was very cooperative with the (football) program."

Leitko has already tripped to Texas, Texas A&M and Notre Dame and has just one more visit left before it's decision time.

"My last visit will be to Michigan this weekend," Leitko said. "After that trip, I'll be ready to decide. I don't really have a leader right now. My plan is to take the whole week after I visit Michigan to think everything over and then I'll be set to pick a school."

TheBootleg Says:

Student Sports had him ranked very high (#10) and started dropping him because of lack of offers.

Look for a verbal by mid week.

Great bloodlines ... and Speed.

What he's saying:

"I was very tempted to commit," Silva said. "Stanford is an unbelievable school. I like coach Teevens a lot and even without a staff in place, everything went like clockwork. That's probably because they kept the recruiting coordinator and his assistant there so everything that was set up for us went real smooth.

"They set up a panel of students that we could ask questions to and they also had a teachers round table with teachers representing the different majors and we could talk to them about anything. We toured the campus in golf carts and did a lot of cool things. I tripped to Northwestern in December but this was my best visit so far."

and he ran the second leg on the state champion sprint relay and
the first leg on the state champion mile relay. Can you say

I think his visit sealed the deal. Should know soon.

I love our chances. I'll put them at 75%. I think he just wants to take all of his trips.

What he's saying:

Stanford leads.

I think he would be ours now if we had offered. It looks like the change in staff might get him another look. Will visit 1/25

Stanford Flag

Wanted us all along. New staff got a new llok at his film.

What he's saying:

"Coach Teevens called me on Monday and said they wanted to offer me a scholarship," McCutcheon said. "Then Coach Tipton came in for a home visit Wednesday and that's when I canceled my trip to Colorado and set one up for Stanford. I've always liked Stanford and when I set up the trip, I had a feeling I would end up there.

"I wasn't sure I would commit on the visit like I did, but I knew I would end up there. Basically, Stanford's combination of academics and athletics is second to none. Oregon and Michigan are both great football schools but academically, they really can't compare to Stanford. From a football standpoint, they offer a lot, but if you're a good player, the scouts will find you.
