Hall of Fame Writer Joins Scout

SEATTLE, Feb. 25, 2005 – For decades he has been considered one of the nation's premier basketball writers, basketball-talent evaluators and sports journalists. In 1992, Sports Illustrated referred to him as one of the "10 most influential members of the media." The United States Basketball Writers Association agreed, recently electing him to its Hall of Fame.

Now Frank Burlison is Scout.com's Basketball Columnist and Expert. Burlison will begin twice-weekly columns for the Network on college basketball, as well as contribute features, NBA Draft coverage and college and professional prospect evaluations. Burlison's first piece for Scout, a preview of the NBA Draft, will appear in Scout.com's post-Signing Day National Recruiting Guide and his online pieces will begin appearing on the Network in March, just in time for all the college-basketball madness.

Burlison will be inducted into the USBWA Hall of Fame on April 4, 2005, during the NCAA Final Four in St. Louis.

"To use a basketball analogy, we're the Los Angeles Lakers in 1996 and we just signed Shaq," said Glenn Nelson, Scout Media's editor-in-chief.

Nelson would know how to judge an elite basketball acquisition. He has written a book on basketball and his other writings on the sport have been published in other books and national publications and won numerous national awards. He also coaches and publishes a basketball website.

Burlison was the originator in 1977 of the renowned Best in the West team, widely considered the forerunner of national recruiting surveys for major newspapers, for the Long Beach Press-Telegram, where he started his journalism career and presently covers college basketball and local sports.

Over the years, Burlison has covered college basketball and football, the NBA and Olympics for the Press-Telegram, Orange Country (Calif.) Register and FOXSports.com, for whom he was the national college-basketball columnist and performed radio and television work. Burlison has been credentialed to cover every Final Four since 1986 and was one of the original members of the McDonald's All-American Selection Committee, which has been in existence since 1978.

Burlison also is a member of the national advisory committee of the John R. Wooden Award, the most prestigious honor a college player can receive, and was elected to the Southern California Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association in 1987, for his contributions to high school basketball.
