Oregon State Preview

We know Ritchie McKay is a solid coach who gets his guys ready to play, and we know that Stanford just logged a physically and emotionally exhausting game against the Ducks. Upset city? stan4hoops has the scouting report on the visiting Beavs and breaks down the Card's next conference foe.

Two gut wrenching overtime games in a row and a hard fought game vs. ASU. I am emotionally drained. The Cardinal have 46 hours to recover from last night's game and get pumped up for Saturday' encounter with the Beavers.

Oregon State is 10 and 12 overall and 3 and 9 in league. The Beavers are one of the youngest teams in Division 1 basketball. When they get it going they are very tough. The Beavers led a Walton-less Arizona team by 18 in Tucson, only to lose it at the end. Ritchie McKay's team will play hard, disciplined basketball hoping for the Cardinal to lose focus and take advantage of mistakes. They only average 64 points a game, so don't expect the track meet we saw vs. Oregon. Additionally, Oregon State Power Forward Brian Jackson sat out the Cal game with a strained groin and abdominal muscle.

I expect Stanford to pound the ball inside to get Ricci in foul trouble. If Jackson doesn't play, no player under 6-7 will see any significant playing time for the Beavers. The Beavs played some zone vs. Cal. I expect the Beavers to do the same vs. the Cardinal and dare the Cardinal to beat them from outside. We may even see some sort of a junk defense like a box and one or a triangle and two. When the Beavers have the ball expect them to be patient and work for a good shot. Stanford can't afford to relax for a second. Haywood, Matsen and See will toss in the 3 when they have the opportunity. Ricci has a Teyo-type body and is a force in the post.
