"It's Such a Special Feeling"

The Bootleg was on hand for Sunday night's big win over UConn in Kansas City, not just for the game but also for the post-game reactions. Read what Brooke Smith, Susan Borchardt and Candice Wiggins had to say immediately after their sweet Sweet 16 win.

Redshirt sophomore center Brooke Smith:

"They're just a really physical team. They were playing well. At halftime, Coach really wanted us to battle back and just battle with them, and I think that was the big change you saw from the first to second half… I wouldn't say it was any more physical than any of [the Pac-10 teams]. They're all good teams."

Fifth-year senior guard Susan King Borchardt:

On the team:
"I'm just so proud of our team… I think it's such a special feeling. We're all excited to be on this team, playing on this team and playing together. I have tons of confidence in my teammates. We really stick together as a team. We talk collectively as a team."

On halftime:
"I think we just decided we didn't want to go home; we weren't ready to be done; we were having so much fun being on this team and we just love playing with each other. We had a great game plan for this game, but we just needed to execute it and I think we all just decided, 'Hey, we're not done yet.' We just put our minds to it that we were going to come out in the second half and really improve on our rebounding and play great defense, and I think we did a great job."

On Michigan State:
"Tonight we're going to celebrate, but tomorrow we're going to focus on Michigan State. We didn't come here to win one game. We came here to win two."

On her 4-of-5 three-point shooting:
"My teammates do a great job of penetrating and kicking out for the outside shot."

Freshman guard Candice Wiggins:

On her acrobatic lay-up with 10:35 left:
"I really look with my play to give us a spark and energy. I have so much trust in my teammates. I don't think I had scored before that [sic], so for me it was a huge play. But pass it to Susan, she's going to hit the three. Pass it inside to Brooke, she's going to score too."
