Lance Thomas is getting recruited by the best of the best but on Saturday night he said Arizona was doing the best job with his recruitment. Watching him in the afternoon where head coach from Stanford and Providence who were joined by Lute Olson. Assistants from Duke, Villanova, Kentucky and Connecticut were there as well. …

In the stands evaluating Chase Budinger was Bill Self, Ben Howland, Lute Olson and Lorenzo Romar. Assistants from Louisville, Kentucky, Southern Cal and California were also in attendance. … Spencer Hawes drew a big time crowd in the morning. Lorenzo Romar, Bill Self, Ben Howland, Herb Sendek and assistants from UNC and Arizona were there.

D.J. Augustin drew the new head coach from Tulane and assistants from LSU and UNC. Roy Williams and Texas were in last week to see him while Wake Forest and LSU are coming this week. "Wherever I go I know I'll have to work," Augustin said.

Texas Ambassadors point man Bryan Beasley was evaluated by Herb Sendek in the morning. Stanford spent some time watching him as well. … Jodie Meeks said he's getting hit hard by Alabama, Wake Forest and Arkansas. Bama's Mark Gottfried began watching him at 8 a.m. and caught his last game at 11 p.m. … Texas Ambassador power forward Brandon Webster is receiving early interest from Kansas State, Utah and Texas A&M. …

Jason Bennett drew an assistant from Miami and FSU's head coach in an early game. … JeJuan Brown of the New Orleans Jazz drew the head coach from Ole Miss plus assistants from Mississippi State, Tulane and LSU. … Bryce Webster's crowd early on Saturday consisted of Mike Brey, Lute Olson and Bill Self who were joined by assistants from Michigan State, Marquette and Boston College. …

The Temple Owls landed themselves a commitment from scoring wing Dionte Christmas who played Saturday at the Charlie Weber event. In other commitment news, Memphis Ridgeway's point guard Jordan Mincy text us to say he's committed to Kent State. …

He's not here but he's still making news. Look for Dwight Lewis, a young wing who verballed to KU earlier in the week and then recanted, to visit the Jayhawks this month and depending on what takes place on the visit will depend on whether or not KU continues recruiting him. …

Amongst those in attendance watching So Cal's Taj Gibson were assistants from St. John's, Cincinnati and Southern Cal. … Willie Walker drew a strong contingent including head coaches from Illinois and Northwestern. He says Cal has offered and he's hearing from Miami, Ohio State, NC State and the Illini. …

Illinois Wolves shooter Devan Bawinkel has offers from DePaul, Georgetown and Wisconsin. He also likes Northwestern, Ohio State and NC State. Northwestern's head coach watched him on Saturday. … Guard Christina Polk has an offer from Arizona State, Miami and Indiana. He also likes Washington and UConn. …

Dayton head coach Brian Gregory watched Kurtis Huelsman. After the game, the big fella who looks a lot like Paul Davis, said he likes the Flyers, Cincinnati, Michigan, Notre Dame, Purdue and Pitt. … Georgia Tech's Paul Hewitt watched Javaris Crittenton. So did Dennis Felton and assistants from Louisville and FSU's head coach. …

Jonathan Mandeldove, a 7-footer with the Atlanta Celtics, signed with VCU this year. He's having an excellent tournament and is likely headed to prep school. He says he likes VCU but some biggies are likely to get involved if he goes that route. …

Clemson sent an assistant to keep track of LaRon Dendy, an important 2007 recruit. He likes the Tigers, UNC, Cincinnati, South Carolina, Florida, Florida State and Miami. … Virginia and Marquette sent assistants to watch Derrick Rose. "Illinois and Kansas are on Derrick so hard I can't sleep at night," Mean Streets coach Luther Topps said. Also causing sleepless nights are Michigan State and Virginia. UNC and Arizona haven't been in contact yet but could make the list if they call while Louisville and Oklahoma State are worthy of mention as well. …

The best part of Jodie Meeks' game is his brain. He has a nice feel out there and makes good, sound basketball decisions. … Mighty mite Bryan Beasley is undersized and a 43% 3-point shooter in high school. On Saturday he wasn't making them and when he's not doing that he losses his effectiveness. … Jason Bennett is out here playing with a sense of passion we've never seen him exhibit before. …

Miami Tropics sophomore forward A.J. Stewart drilled mid-range jumpers on Saturday and played the best we've seen him since last summer. … L.D. Williams of the Tropics could develop into a lockdown defender. … Jamelle McMillan, son of Nate, is a pure point man. Teammate Isaiah Thomas is lightning quick but tiny. Love his confidence …
