Stanford Offers Tyler Porras

It was only a matter of time before Arizona's top athlete received his first scholarship offer. Tyler Porras could be a receiver, corner or safety in college. He pulled in his first offer over the weekend, and it came from a Pac-10 school. Find out what he has to say about the Cardinal, and who else is on his trail.

College coaches will be able to get their first look at Tyler Porras in his senior season when Saguaro takes on Canyon Del Oro on September 2nd in Tucson (Ariz.). That gives a hometown school the best chance to advance their evaluation of the in-state athlete. "The Arizona coaches told me they could offer after the first game. We'll see," explained Porras. "They are showing me a lot of attention and I am still high on them."

The school that holds Porras' interest right now is the one that just offered. The Stanford Cardinal came through with a scholarship over the weekend. "We spoke with Stanford on Sunday and they said they have an offer for me. I have to send in my admissions packet, bio, recommendations, and essays they want me to write. I am real excited about the offer. Coach (linebackers coach) Darrell Patterson amd my father (Tom Porras) played in the Canadian league together so they are good friends.

"Stanford likes me as a cornerback. My guess is I'll be a corner at the next level with my body type."

Porras says he'll be a starter at corner and running back for his squad this fall. He'll also play a little safety. His team will be implementing the spread offense this fall so Porras will be lining up at many different spots.

Other schools showing a lot of attention at this point include UTEP, Utah, UNLV, and San Diego State.

The Arizona athlete has yet to schedule any official visits.
