Friday Night Lights: Mission Viejo

It was supposed to be entertaining, but it turned into a rout. Mission Viejo (Calif.), arguably the top prep program on the west coast and even the country, rolled right through Issaquah (Wash.) 55-36 in the Emerald City Kickoff Classic, held on Labor Day at Qwest Field in Seattle. We were entertained, nonetheless, by's #2 tight end in the nation in his senior opener.

With Chane Moline, Sean Fitzgerald and the Reuland brothers paving the way, Mission Viejo cruised to a 48-point halftime lead. Moline had 65 yards on six carries and three scores, Fitzgerald scored twice on big plays, and Reuland scored once. The 55-36 final score wasn't close to capturing the one-sided nature of this game.

According to a Mission Viejo staffer, Konrad Reuland - the heralded 6'6" tight end for the Diablos - has narrowed down his college choices to Notre Dame, USC and Stanford, with the Irish holding a slight edge at this point. Others close to the program feel that Reuland's younger brother Warren, currently a 6'5" 190-pound sophomore receiver, just might end up being a better college prospect than Konrad.
