Joe Johnson Considering Options

Joe Johnson, an outstanding student and one of the better point guards still available in the West Coast class of 2006, says he'll sign in the spring. Stanford is a school in which he has keen interest at this time...

Joe Johnson, 5-9 SR PG Gardena (Calif.) Serra, is an outstanding student and he has several schools expressing interest in him. However, Johnson will probably not be signing in the fall.

"I've decided I want to wait until the spring," said Johnson. "I like some of the schools that are recruiting me, but I want to see if any of the higher ones offer a scholarship."

Johnson said he is particularly interested in a Pac-10 program.

"Stanford is really the school I'd like to go to, if everything works out," said Johnson. "I spoke with Tony Fuller and he said that their staff viewed me as a possible walk-on. But Coach Fuller said he likes me and their scholarship situation may be different in spring."

Cal, Yale, Columbia, Dartmouth, Lehigh, UC Davis and UC Irvine are among the other programs that have shown varying levels of interest in Johnson.

"They're all good schools," said Johnson. "But I want to play this season and see what happens."
