Bootleg Video: Tim Mattran

When Brian Head went out in the first quarter of the UC Davis game with a shoulder injury, few expected that reserve and former walk-on Tim Mattran would be able to man the center position in an every-down capacity. The redshirt junior has impressed us all since, starting the last four games and mastering the playcalls to lead the offensive line. It is high time you meet this engaging young man.

When you have questions about the Stanford offensive line, there are few people better to ask than Mattran.  His physical gifts may trail some, but the heady redshirt junior has surprised us all with his handle of the center position in a starting role.  The 6'5" 300-pound came to The Farm as a walk-on and has been shuffled between all five offensive line positions since.  2005 has been a breakout year for Mattran, and he sat down yesterday with The Bootleg to talk about this fall and how he arrived at this point.  You expect a cerebral player at center, and Mattran delivers in his introspective discussion of his past and present, as well as some unanswered questions about this Cardinal offensive line.
