However, what many do not know is that the high-scoring St. Mary's (Ariz.) 6-foot-3, 185-pound junior point guard could take his 3.5 GPA and head to Stanford if he wanted.
The Cardinal probably won't ever see Bayless on their campus (unless it's when they face either Arizona or Texas), but Trent Johnson and his staff are still trying to make a push to land Bayless.
In fact, Johnson was at St. Mary's on Monday for the team's first official practice.
Bayless raved about his September visit to Austin, Texas, and also continues to praise Arizona – where he went recently to watch the Wildcats first practice.
Bayless admits he's getting close to making a decision, but for now he's more focused on trying to win a state title.
``I want to get it done pretty soon," Bayless said. ``You know when you know – and I'm almost there."
``All I need is a state championship," he added. "And I want to do a better job getting everyone involved. Everyone knows I can score."
Bayless admits that academics are important in choosing a school, but he's also candid enough to admit what comes first.
``People say academics come first, but the next step I'm trying to take with my life is to play basketball," Bayless said. "After that, it's academics."
