Second Season, Finally, for Fua

Encino (Calif.) Crespi senior student-athlete Sione Fua has many hats he wears. He serves on his school's student council. He is an Eagle Scout. He is a servant to his Mormon faith. He is a two-way elite lineman on the gridiron. Friday was his last day playing football in high school, ending on a high note. Now, finally, Sione Fua can start rolling on recruiting.

Defensive tackle Sione Fua (6-2, 290, 4.9) from Encino (Calif.) Crespi Carmelite helped lead his team to a CIF Southern Section Division X championship, as his team defeated Lompoc 24-14.  Fua finished the year with over 60 tackles and eight sacks.  Now his attention turns to recruiting.

"I'll probably wait until Signing Day before I make my decision," Fua forecasts.  "I still have a bunch of trips to take, so I won't be able to decide early.  I'd like to come in and try to play right away.  I want to play where there is team spirit and where people take pride in the football team."

Fua denies a leader, but favors California, Stanford, Oregon, BYU and USC.  All of his favorites have offered, except the Trojans.  "They are still evaluating my films and everything," Fua updates. "I talk to the USC coaches as much as I do everybody else; they just haven't offered."

His first official visit is next weekend to Cal.  "They have a great environment and they are doing big things there," Fua comments.  "They have great coaches and are putting together a great class.  They'll be a top team for the next several years."

In January, Fua will be visiting BYU (January 6), Stanford (January 13) and Oregon (January 20). "Oregon had a great season this year and only lost to USC," he offers.  "I love how much support they get from the town and that the coaches are stable and have been there forever.

"Of course, you can't go wrong with the education at Stanford," Fua maintains.  "The new coaches are looking to turn things around, and I think they'll be getting better.  They've had their ups and downs this year, but I think they'll get it done."

Sione Fua, a four-star recruit, is currently ranked by as the #17 defensive tackle in the nation and the #31 overall player in the West region.  He reports a 4.0 GPA and a 1510 SAT.
