Tennis Women in NCAA Finals

The Stanford women's tennis team advanced to the NCAA finals with a 4-0 thrashing of Georgia.

Stanford easily won the doubles point, winning 8-1 at #1 doubles (Kalvaria/Lastra) and 8-4 at #3 doubles (Tokuda/Tweedie-Yates). In singles, the rout continued as the Cardinal won handily at #2 (Gabriela Lastra won 6-3, 6-4), #4 (Erin Burdette won 6-3, 6-4) and #5 (Keiko Tokuda won 6-1, 6-0). Stanford was also winning at #6 singels when the contest was stopped.

The Cardinal successfully avenged its only dual match loss in the last 2 years.Georgia defeated a injury-depleted Stanford team 4-3 at the National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, WI in February. The Cardinal was missing its top player, Lauren Kalvaria (currently ranked #4 in the nation) and still almost pulled out the victory.

In the other semi-final, top-seeded Florida squared off against 13th-seeded Tennessee. The Gator women are expected to be Stanford's opponent on Sunday at 1 pm. Come out and support this impressive team on Sunday as coach Lele Forood and assistant coach Frankie Brennan try to claim Stanford's record 13th national title and its 10th in the last 17 seasons! Florida has won 3 titles during Stanford's reign.
