The magazine will be printed in an eye-catching glossy format similar to other high quality magazines like Sports Illustrated and will consist of feature articles and information covering all aspects of Stanford University's sports teams and student-athletes.
The Bootleg provides comprehensive coverage of Stanford sports through its website at www.thebootleg.com and is the leading independent online destination devoted to Cardinal athletics.
The Bootleg co-founder and publisher Lars Ahlstrom (Stanford '82) said the goal of the magazine is to deliver comprehensive, dedicated coverage of Stanford sports.
"There is a significant disparity between the level of coverage Stanford fans can expect from traditional media sources and the volume of information these fans crave," he said. "The Bootleg helps to fill this gap."
"The Bootleg has been a top source of information and insight on the Internet for Stanford fans all over the world," said Jim Heckman, the CEO of Citadel Publishing and TheInsiders.com. "The high-quality glossy magazine now adds greatly to that experience. The fans of all of Stanford's great athletic programs are big winners."
The Bootleg began publishing in 1994 as a weekly newsletter on Stanford football. In 1999, the newsletter moved online to become TheBootleg.com. The high-traffic Website is now devoted to all Cardinal sports and has attracted a daily following of several thousand fans and other visitors.
"The new magazine brings us back into print," said editor Stan DeVaughn. "We'll focus on a variety of issues of interest to Cardinalmaniacs, as we affectionately refer to hardcore fans."
"Our objective," said DeVaughn, "is to encourage maniacal, near-dangerous support of Stanford sports and deliver to Cardinal fans the best independent coverage available on the planet. But, with our own brand of Bootleg insouciance: that added element of fun, entertainment, satire, sarcasm, irreverence and flippancy."
An annual subscription to the magazine is $44.95 and will debut with a price of $39.95 for orders placed online. For more information on The Bootleg, The Magazine, please visit www.thebootleg.com.
