There were a number of different ways to view Stanford's 84-78 win Saturday over Arizona State. The Cardinal were hammered on the boards and lost the perimeter shooting battle, but at the same time they played a more aggressive defense and offense down the stretch that won the turnover and free throw wars. VanDerveer talked afterward about the work still ahead for her team, but praised her veteran leaders in Wiggins and Smith for "putting the team on their back". A freshman point guard also came of age with her defense that cause turnovers and sparked fast breaks for the Cardinal
