Bootleg Video: Guards on Point

The lesson learned on Sunday against Arizona, which may be repeated tonight at Washington, is that Stanford must do a better job of handling defensive pressure. Chris Hernandez and Mitch Johnson are the Cardinal's primary ballhandlers and talked about the subject this week. Hernandez also spoke about his emotions at this point in the season, while Johnson admitted the need to shoot the ball better.

Hernandez took Sunday's loss as hard or harder than anybody at Stanford, visibly shaken, disturbed and disappointed afterward in the press room.  With a couple days to digest and forget the loss, he talks about how he is trying to refocus for the next challenge at Washington.  A key area of improvement for him and the entire team is handling defensive pressure.  That spun the Cardinal out of control against Arizona to open the second half, and more of the same will come from the Huskies tonight.  The fifth-year senior also opens his heart to talk about the pressure he feels and the desire to win, not just for himself and his teammates, but for the alumni and greater Stanford community.

Johnson talks about how to better handle defensive pressure as well, but he also speaks frankly about the need for him to better hit jumpers and to score when defenses sag off him - an increasing reality for the Cardinal offense.  The freshman additionally opines as to a reason he is not shooting the ball as well as he did in high school.
