Bootleg Video: David Stringer

He is one of very best stories in Stanford Athletics this year. Sophomore pitcher David Stringer came to The Farm from across the street at Palo Alto High School as a walk-on with zero acclaim or press clippings. He never threw a pitch during the 2005 season but has already earned Pac-10 Player of the Week honors this season. You become an even bigger fan of Stringer when you hear him talk so humbly about his story.

The 6'1" graduate of Palo Alto High School is the number one surprise story for Stanford Baseball this year.  After failing to appear on the mound in his freshman year, the second-year righthander has thrown in four games and racked up two wins and a save in this young 2006 season.  Stringer was named Pac-10 Player of the week after picking up his pair of wins in 10.1 innings against Nevada and Fresno State, striking out 15 batters against just one walk.  The sophomore owns a 1.46 ERA, and nobody is more excited about his break-out than him.  He talked with us last week about growing up a Cardinal fan, walking on at Stanford, and how he made the incredible leap from his invisible freshman year to this stunning sophomore start.
