Bootleg Video: Tim Mattran

When Stanford welcomed an offensive line class of seven big bodies in the 2002 recruiting class, the afterthought was walk-on Tim Mattran. That class is now the make-or-break core of the Cardinal's offense in 2006, and Mattran is the only lineman in his class (or any other) to be named a starter to date. The Minnesota man sits down to talk about his role this spring, the attitude and progress of the offensive line, and more...

The Stanford coaches left four starting jobs on the offensive line wide open at the start of this spring, with the sole exception being the center position.  Fifth-year senior Tim Mattran has been named the starter at that spot, which carries added responsibility this spring with so much pressure on the line, in addition to the new shotgun snap duties being added.  We sat down with the former walk-on to talk about the role of leadership he is taking in a position group where he has so many friends and classmates.  Also the status of the "buy-in" for the linemen as they start their second year with this coaching staff, the new challenge of playing against frosh phenom nose tackle Ekom Udofia, the progress of second team center Preston Clover, and more.
