When talking about the Stanford defense in 2006, there is no bigger and more frequently voiced concern than the secondary. When we interviewed defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator A.J. Christoff last week, he named fifth-year senior strong safety Trevor Hooper as the leader of that group, so we decided to check in with the Mountain View (Calif.) man to get his read on the group this spring. Already a thin group, the absence of senior free safety Brandon Harrison puts more pressure on young safeties to grow up quickly. Hooper talks about how those youngsters have responded this spring, as well as how he approaches his leadership role. Christoff's return to The Farm also changes Hooper's role from free safety to strong safety, as well as shaking up the schemes of the entire defense. Hooper talks about those changes and his hopes for a surprise upside with the Cardinal defense in '06.
