Bootleg Audio: John Platz Post-UCLA

After Sunday night's 75-68 win over #2-ranked UCLA, where the Cardinal rallied from 17 points down, there was one man in Maples Pavilion to track down. We talked with John Platz, the voice of Stanford Basketball, about this impressive comeback from a young team, the second-half defense that shut down Arron Afflalo, the credit Trent Johnson deserves, the historic magnitude of the win and more.

Stanford trailed by 17 points shortly before halftime but exploded in the second half Sunday for a 75-68 win that will go down in the Cardinal annals for the awesome comeback rally as the #2 ranking that UCLA possessed.  Was it the Stanford defense after halftime, led by Fred Washington shutting down the red-hot Arron Afflalo, or the offense hitting at a 70% clip that keyed the surge?  How did a team so young come back so impressively, when by all rights they should have crumbled?  What does this type of performance, and those we have seen lately out of Stanford, tell us about the stamp of a Trent Johnson team?

Our good friend, former player and longtime voice of Stanford Basketball, John Platz answered all of these questions in our extensive sitdown with him at Maples Pavilion after the building cleared but the buzz was still pulsating.  Platz also compared this performance with a memorable game when Trent Johnson coached at Nevada, while heaping praise and describing his excitement for the very bright future of this ballclub.
