Remembering Walsh: Steve Stenstrom
The Bootleg proudly presents a rare and exclusive five-part audio interview with record-breaking "Walsh II" quarterback Steve Stenstrom, a casual September 12, 2007 conversation published for the first time today in its raw, unedited entirety. Get a fresh cup of coffee, sit back and enjoy the fond reminiscence of one of the former Walsh players who knew Bill best.
As a special nostalgic tribute, we are publishing this interview on the exact 15-year anniversary of the Cardinal's incredible 33-16 upset win over Notre Dame in South Bend on October 3, 1992., a game through which Steve Stenstrom and Bill Walsh will forever be linked and so fondly remembered. Difficult to believe it was 15 years ago today! If you think back and reflect on your favorite moments in Cardinal Football history, the 1992 win over the Fighting Irish has to go down as one of the all-time greats.
The warm and articulate Stenstrom generously shares his memories and personal relationship with Coach Walsh, recalls great games against Notre Dame and U$C in 1992, Colorado in 1993, the Blockbuster Bowl, etc. plus the famous "Tris Pass Right", the painful end of the 1993 Arizona game (the game ultimately responsible for launching The Bootleg), the infamous 1994 fiasco at Northwestern, and more. "Emeritus" may not be a David Frost, but we think many of you will enjoy this walk down memory lane with an impressive young man who clearly grew and thrived under the great man's guidance...and not only in football.
