Dribbles & Bits: CS Bakersfield

It wasn't exactly pretty, but it was pretty satisfying as the Cardinal pounded the CS-Bakersfield Roadrunners into submission Tuesday evening in a fairly solid 85-50 victory over a game, but obviously overmatched opponent making a transition to Division I. Senior Lawrence Hill led all scorers with 20 points in just 25 minutes. Now it's on to beat the Bears…again!

Dribbles & Bits: CS Bakersfield

50-25 at the half. 85-50 final. And it wasn't that close. Playing without senior shooting guard Anthony Goods, who sat out due to a either stomach flu or food poisoning, Coach Dawkins was able to play 14 players in a rout of the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners, a crushing blow not seen since our old pal Wile E. Coyote got crushed by a 1,000-pound Acme anvil!

Behind 20 points from senior Lawrence Hill and a quick 10 & 8 from Landry Fields in just 21 minutes, the Cardinal coasted to an easy victory Tuesday night in its final non-conference game of the 2008-09 season (unless Stanford ends up hosting a post-season tournament game, which could happen). It was a "W" and we'll take it. 11-0 in non-conference games isn't too shabby!

This win certainly helps increase the Cardinal's chance of a post-season appearance. And we avoided having provisional Division I CS Bakersfield, who is in the fourth year of a five-year reclassification process, pull off a UC Davis. I can take ribbing from the Aggies, but if I had to get hassled by Bakersfield alumni, I might not react well.

More in the morning. Gotta hit the sack.
