East, West, Home is best.

The Cardinal reasserted their dominance in a 72-48 rout over Cal. Glad to return to the friendly bounce of Maples Pavilion after a challenging weekend in Los Angeles, Stanford looked confident, focused and aggressive. All eleven healthy players saw minutes in Stanford's 21st straight home victory. Stanford will take their game on the road to face Cal again this Saturday.

Sebnem Kimyacioglu came off the bench to add 14 points, including 4 three pointers. Her defensive pressure held the Golden Bears’ leading scorer Nihan Anaz to 2 points. She worked hard on both ends of the court, finishing with 5 assists and 3 rebounds.

Kimyacioglu’s balanced performance matched that of her teammates. Chelsea Trotter came off the bench to lead all scorers with 17 points. She joined a committee of post defenders that kept Cal’s star center Timea Ivanyi at bay. T’Nae Thiel did everything but put on an apron to sell popcorn at half time. She finished with 13 points, 4 boards, 3 assists and 2 steals. All eleven Stanford players notched at least one rebound.

In her first start of the season, Nicole Powell just missed a double-double with 9 points on 3-4 shooting. She lead the team with ten rebounds. Instead of lighting up the scoreboard, Powell directed the Cardinal in transition. Although the first few football style passes were a bit too strong, they quickly found their mark. Once Stanford had their running game warmed up, they left the Bears in a streak of red at half court.

Cal didn’t suffer from a lack of depth. Ten different players scored. Freshman Sarah Pool and Renee Wright helped spark a few exciting moments in Cal’s offensive attack. The clash between Cal’s twin towers Timea Ivanyi and Olga Volkova and Stanford’s triumvirate of Trotter, Thiel and Perryman will be crucial to the result of the next hardcourt Big Game. The Bears have two days to adjust their game plan before the rematch at Haas Pavilion. The game starts at 2pm PST and will be broadcast live on KZSU 90.1 FM.
