Underwood made the trip out to Palo Alto with his mom and dad was hosted by fellow Texan Stepfan Taylor, who lives about 30 minutes away from the big offensive lineman.
"We used to play select basketball together when we were younger," Underwood said.
This was Underwood's second trip out to Stanford (he took an unofficial visit for Junior Day last year), but his first chance to get better acquainted with most of the 2010 Stanford recruiting class.
"We got to spend a lot of time with the guys and really form friendships," Underwood said.
Some recruiting observers have harbored concerns that the departure of several assistant coaches this offseason could have a negative impact on recruiting. Underwood disputed that claim.
"It wasn't much of a concern," Underwood said. "I think the conversation about that was more with the players who were already at Stanford. There were some guys who mentioned they had been recruited by one of the coaches who left but the guys came to Stanford for Stanford. It hasn't really affected anyone."
Underwood was admitted to Stanford in late November, and is now looking forward to signing day. Beyond that, he is anxiously awaiting the start of Stanford's summer session when he and the rest of the class of 2010 will don the Cardinal jersey for the first time.
"From my understanding everyone will attend summer school, except for Dallas Lloyd who will be going on a mission trip," Underwood said. "That's what all of the freshmen last year did."
