Just a Formality

The last time SyracuseFan.com talked to Eric Crume he said he was ready to give a verbal commitment to the Orange and after talking to him on Thursday night, nothing has changed. He still sounds like a lock to be Orange and will have Tyrone Wheatley at his game Friday.

Central High School defensive tackle Eric Crume is off to a great start to his senior season and the 6-foot-1, 315-pound lineman talked to Scout.com very openly about his plans with the Orange.

"We're really close to a commitment," Crume stated. "I'm ready to take my visit to Syracuse, but I'm just trying to focus on my season and give them my leadership, so I'm trying to keep my head here for about a month or so before doing that. It's as close to a done deal as it's going to be though."

"Coach (Tyrone) Wheatley will actually be at my game tomorrow and I'm real excited about that," Crume exclaimed. "I need to give him a preview of why they gave me an opportunity to come play for their university tomorrow, so it's going to be big. We've been talking very, very often and we have a great relationship now. The thing I appreciate most about him is that he makes sure I stay focused for my team and that's a great thing to hear from him."

Central is 2-1 on the season after a tough loss in the second weekend to Cass-Tech. They play Southwestern on Friday. Crume has 21 tackles and 5.5 sacks on the season so far.
