Smallwood Meets New Family

This was a big recruiting weekend for Syracuse and it sounds like the staff and team did a great job making incoming freshman tailback Tyree Smallwood feel like he was already a member of the family.

Cornwall Central High School running back Tyree Smallwood took his official visit to Syracuse this weekend and came away knowing that he now has a very large extended family.

"I got up on Friday at 3pm, so I actually got a lot done that first day there," Smallwood said. "The first thing I did after lunch was take in a running backs meeting which was good. It was a little confusing because I don't know much about their schemes, but it was good. I really bonded well with Coach Tyrone Wheatley and the other running backs on the team."

"They took me on a tour of the facilities and everything after that and it was fun," Smallwood added. "It stood out to me that the team really just immediately took me in, so that was good. I think we're going to have a great team next year. We went out Friday night and had some fun too."

"I also met some of the other recruits like Ishaq Williams, Kevin McReynolds, Donnie Simmons, Shutang Mungwa and Brandon Reddish and they were all cool. I'm hoping Ishaq and McReynolds come up with us to Syracuse. They both said they really liked it up there."

Recently speculated about how Smallwood could be used at Syracuse and we asked him what the coaches have in mind.

"They plan to use me as a running back/slot player like Reggie Bush," Smallwood explained. "It's different how they want to use me. They want to get me out in space, use me on screens and get me in the passing game as well as have me play running back."
