Syracuse Offers O'Brien

Syracuse has been using Coach Tyrone Wheatley's recruiting prowess in Michigan early and often so far in this class and they just offered four-star defensive tackle Danny O'Brien who says he will definitely be making the trip to Upstate New York this spring or summer to see things for himself.

Danny O'Brien, a 6-foot-3, 287-pound defensive tackle from Luke M Powers Catholic High School in Flint, Mich., just received an offer from Syracuse and while his knowledge of the school isn't great yet, his relationship with Coach Tyrone Wheatley is certainly a building block for the Orange.

"I talked to Coach Tyrone Wheatley and he gave me the news," O'Brien stated. "He talked to me about Syracuse and just told me that it's a great place. I've talked to him on the phone three times before and we're getting to know each other."

Wheatley has been making great inroads with recruits being from Michigan himself and we asked O'Brien what he likes about his recruiter so far.

"He's from Michigan and he went to Michigan, so I understand a lot of stuff he says and we're building a good relationship," O'Brien said. "He's also a straight-forward guy that doesn't try to talk the school up. He just let's Syracuse speak for itself."

On that note, we asked the four-star defensive lineman what he did know about the Orange.

"I'm not that knowledgeable about them yet. I've never even been to New York before, so I really just know what Coach Ty has told me, but I will get up there in the spring or summer and check them out to see what they're about."

O'Brien was pretty clear on what he was looking for in a school.

"I want to make sure it's a campus that I'm comfortable on and somewhere that I have a good relationship with the coaches," O'Brien explained. "Life after football is also huge for me, so academics are going to play a big role. I'd like to coach at the college level when I get done with football, so my major will have something that puts me in that direction."

As a junior, Danny O'Brien registered 90 tackles, had nine sacks, forced two fumbles and recovered two fumbles, one of which he returned for a touchdown.
