Cheng's Best and Worst of 2002-03

There's no question that this season for the Orangemen is one for the record books. Here's a look at some of the best and worst of this year.

1) Best game: Syracuse defeats Kansas in the title game, 81-78, on Monday. Coach Jim Boeheim finally wins his first championship behind 20 points from Carmelo Anthony.

2) Worst game: Syracuse 65, Rutgers 68 on Jan. 29. Herve Lamizana banked in a 3-pointer with 16.6 seconds to lift Rutgers in the upset.

3) Most boring: Syracuse 89, West Virginia 51 on Feb. 26. Syracuse holds the Mountaineers to 27 percent from the field while Boeheim lets six walk-on players on the court.

4) Most exciting: Syracuse 67, Pittsburgh 65 on Feb. 1. The Carrier Dome crowd rushes the court three times as the Orangemen topple the No. 2 Panthers.

5) Best player quote: "Y'all keep chanting ‘one more year.' I thought you stayed in college for four years." – Carmelo Anthony

6) Best Boeheim quote: ''I don't feel any smarter yet. Maybe tomorrow.'' – Boeheim after Syracuse topped Kansas. The coach's demeanor was even more unassuming after the win.

7) Best dunk: Hakim Warrick posterized Royal Ivey midway through the second half of Syracuse's 95-84 win against Texas in the national semifinal game on April 5.

8) Biggest surprise: The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Gerry McNamara. The guard out of Scranton, Pa. averaged 13.3 points and a team-leading 4.4 assists while outplaying TJ Ford, Hollis Price and Julius Page among others. Everyone expected Anthony to be stellar, not as many predicted McNamara to have such a great year.

9) Best chant: "F*** ‘em up, f*** ‘em up, go SU, we're gonna kick the s*** outta you!"

10) Best comeback: Syracuse 68, Okalahoma State 56 on Mar. 23. The Orangemen overcome a 17-point deficit thanks to three second-half 3-pointers from McNamara.
