Newhouse Impresses Thompson

Syracuse offered Colin Thompson a few days back and we didn't get a chance to catch up with him, but on Sunday he called to talk about how impressed he was both with the work ethic of the coaching staff recruiting him so far and the academic reputation that Syracuse brings to the table in the field of Communications.

Colin Thompson is already standing in at 6-foot-5, 255 pounds, but the young man from Archbishop Wood still has room to grow and despite not putting up big numbers in the receiving game, he is very good with the ball in his hands. His blocking has been outstanding for two years for the Vikings and all of this combined has helped him garner 10 early offers. On Sunday, he spoke with us about all of the attention the Orange are giving him already.

"So far I've gotten nine handwritten letters from Syracuse since I got my offer from different coaches, so they're obviously giving me a lot of attention at this point," Thompson stated. "I've never gotten that many handwritten letters in one day from a school, so I was pretty impressed by that and it showed me how committed the coaching staff was to the kids that they do offer."

Thompson admittedly doesn't know a lot about Syracuse at this point, but there are some things he does want to learn about.

"The first thing that comes to mind with me is their Communications School as a whole as I've done some research on it and found out how good it was," Thompson explained. "I mean, I knew that before they offered me, but I know a lot of the people on ESPN are from Syracuse and my father is in communications and many of those people are Syracuse graduates, so I know it's a very good school for that field."

"Communications is definitely a field that I want to get into along with a business background, so that was a big plus for me when Syracuse offered me," Thompson added. "I have to plan my visits out when I get back from Notre Dame, so I'm going to try to see how I can get things moving to get up there when I get back."

As a junior, Thompson caught 13 passes for 208 yards and four touchdowns. He also blocked for two running backs that went over 1000 yards each.
