Poncho's In the House

Syracuse received another in-state commitment from Rochester, N.Y., native Poncho Barnwell on Wednesday according to his defensive coordinator Sean Banks and SyracuseFan.com asked his coach why he committed to the school.

Poncho Barnwell, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound defensive end from East High School has been a player that we've been keeping an eye on for a while because frankly, while he's been holding offers from Buffalo and AkronSyracuse always seemed like the logical landing place for the young man. On Wednesday, that became a reality as he called into the school late at night to commit.

"Poncho did commit to Syracuse today, but I want to call and make sure he did make the call in to Coach (Doug) Marrone," defensive coordinator Sean Banks said. "He really liked Syracuse all along and was just waiting for that offer."

"He had a great relationship with Tyrone Wheatley and it's so close to home for him," Banks added. "I know his main reason for committing to the school was that he felt very comfortable with the coaching staff in place there. When we went to their camp on Sunday he really did well and that's what I think put him over the edge for an offer."

Barnwell is a player that brings very good length and athleticism to the defensive line for the Orange and will just need to keep hitting the weight room to add some bulk.
