SU defense to decide outcome vs. Toledo

The buzz in the Carrier Dome just about one hour before kickoff is surrounding the Syracuse defense after getting exposed by USC last week in what would be the team's first loss of 2011.

The pass-rush was inconsistent in the loss, and they will likely be without the services of defensive end Chandler Jones once again (lower body injury). The secondary took a hit last week during the game, and it appears as if starting strong safety Shamarko Thomas (hamstring) won't be able to suit up. Expect a bit of a rotation at safety in wake of the issue, an area Toledo will certainly look to target.

Offensively, the Orange unit is at full-strength. Veteran QB Ryan Nassib and RB Antwon Bailey will look to pace the squad early to set the tone -- but the key will be the defense's ability to limit the quick-start Rockets early on.
