‘Cuse players garnering honors

The last two weeks have not been ideal for Syracuse football, but a few standout performances have garnered attention from both the Big East and the Geico play of the year committee.

Against Rutgers, freshman Dyshawn Davis and junior Rishard Anderson combined for the play of the day. On the second play of the game defensively, Davis blitzed untouched and put a big hit on Rutgers RB Jawan Jamison, who fumbled. Anderson recovered on the run for SU, and he ran with a convoy 66 yards to the end zone to give SU the early lead.

The play has has been nominated as one of three plays for the GEICO Play of the Year, which was announced by Intersport on Sunday. Fans can vote for the play on Facebook.

In SU's win over Tulane on Saturday, sophomore kicker Ross Krautman notched three field goals in as many tries – including the game-winner from 21 yards out as time expired. The performance landed him Big East Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Senior quarterback Ryan Nassib, who was 19-of-34 for 186 yards and two touchdowns in the road win, was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the fifth time this season.

'Cuse has the week off, which will enable the team to get towards full strength before the October 21 game against West Virginia, currently ranked 13th in the country.
