Although the University of Louisville defense enters Saturday's game against Syracuse University ranked 15th in the country in total defense, it will not be at full strength. The press box is flooded with rumors that multiple defenders are banged up for the Cardinals.
Despite the buzz, the only confirmed scratch on the defense is senior defensive end Greg Scruggs. The backups are solid anyway, and present more of a problem for Ryan Nassib and company as pass-rushers.
The running back situation is finally taking shape for the first time since Prince-Tyson Gulley was ruled out for the season (collarbone) a few weeks back. Jerome Smith will supplement Antwon Bailey, and Adonis Ameen-Moore will get some looks as well – especially in short yardage.
Even with all of the pregame advantages and expectation to win, Syracuse must do it on the field. The first half will be a good measure of how the team will deal with the momentum of defeating the conference favorite on national television eight days ago.
