Laray Smith is one of the fastest running backs in the 2013 class. His recruitment has drawn a lot of interest from Syracuse fans. The speed his possesses is on a level Syracuse does not have. Smith has set one official visit and is looking to schedule more.
"Things have been going well," Smith told CuseNation.com. "I already have one visit to scheduled to Tennessee. It's an official visit and I'll be taking it in December."
One school that has been involved with Smith for a while is Oregon. The Ducks have been recruiting Smith but have yet to offer himj. However, that situation could resolve itselt soon. Smith said, based on his conversations with the Oregon coaching staff, that he will know by the end of September whether the Ducks are offering or not.
An offer from Oregon could make his recruitment even more intense as he starts to schedule official visits. Right now, he says West Virginia, Syracuse, Connecticut, Indiana, and Purdue are the schools pursuing him the hardest right now in addition to Tennessee.
Smith says an official to Syracuse is definitely going to happen, but a date has not been scheduled yet. He also plans on taking an official to Purdue and would like to visit West Virginia at some point as well.
Syracuse continues to aggressively pursue Smith, contacting him on a regular basis. The Orange covet his speed, and view him as an important prospect given their focus on New York City recruiting.
The speedy running back also plans on attending the New York College Classic on Saturday when Syracuse faces USC.
