Ron Patterson Talks Syracuse Offer

Syracuse recently offered 2013 SG Ron Patterson of Brewster Academy. The offer made a big impression on the talented guard. He spoke to about that and his recruitment.

Ron Patterson was a 4-star shooting guard in the 2012 class who committed to Indiana. However, he decided to attend Brewster Academy for a year and decommitted from the Hoosiers. Now, his recruitment is open and the Orange have started expressing interest.

Recently, Syracuse offered Patterson, and are going to have him on campus soon. He spoke to about the offer, the upcoming visit, and his recruitment.

"Yeah they offered," Patterson said. "It was kind threw me at first because they weren't recruiting me. Now, I think they're very interested and I'm looking to really get to know the school."

The 6-foot-3 guard was offered by Jim Boeheim and Gerry McNamara in a joint phone call. Now that Patterson is getting to know the Orange, his recruitment is starting to take shape.

"It's been good so far" he explained. "My recruitment has been good. I cancelled a visit to Xavier because of a conflict. I'm also hearing from SMU. I don't have any favorites yet. I'm going to take an official to Syracuse coming up soon. From Wednesday (October 31st) until Friday (November 2nd)."

Despite his interest in Syracuse, he says the chances of a commitment during his visit are low. Patterson wants to take all of his visits before making a final decision. That said, he believes his game would translate well into the Orange's style of play.

"I'm a great on the ball defender," Patterson described. "I can steal the ball really well. I can shoot from any range. I have to work on my ball handling a little bit, but it's getting there.

"I played zone my sophomore year and I really liked it. I'm very familiar with it. I liked the zone Syracuse runs a lot. I could be at the top of the zone and steal the ball with my 6-foot-7 wing span."

As his recruitment starts to pick up, Patterson has several schools coming at him the hardest right now. Xavier, Providence, Connecticut, Boston College, and Florida State are those schools in addition to Syracuse.

Patterson has no timetable for his decision, and says he has no leaders. The most important factor in his decision will be his relationship with the coaching staff.
