Edwards Receives Visit from Anselmo

Augustus Edwards is one of the most talented players in Syracuse 2013 class. Assistant coach John Anselmo visited him this week to continue to recruit the 3-star running back. Edwards spoke with CuseNation.com about that and gave an update on the Florida State situation.

Without a game this week, the Syracuse staff has been hitting the recruiting trail hard. On Monday, assistant coach John Anselmo took a trip down to New York City to visit commit Augustus Edwards. While they weren't able to schedule an in-home, they did talk at school.

"Coach Anselmo just came," Edwards recalled. "He came down the other day. We were trying to set up how I was going to get up there. We talked transportation wise how I was going to get up there for my visit. Also he wanted me to sign up for some SATs. Then we just talked football.

"We talked mostly about Syracuse football. Like what bowl games they're going to be eligible for. He told me all about that. He talked about a few of the players there and how they're doing. Just things like that."

Due to some scheduling conflicts, they did not have an in-home visit. However, Edwards said they are going to do that next week prior to his official visit. He is looking forward to both because he has developed a strong relationship with Anselmo.

"He's been recruiting me since my sophomore year," he said. "He's one of those guys throughout this whole thing that I really built a strong relationship with. Both football wise and personally. He's one of those guys you can confide in. He's a New York guy like me."

When Edwards committed, many Syracuse fans were expecting Ebenezer Ogundeko and Laray Smith to follow. His relationship with both may help, but he is not pushing them towards Syracuse.

"I don't really try to tell those guys where to go because it's their decision," Edwards offered. "I just tell them that I think Syracuse is a good place right now. I know I'm looking forward to getting back up there and seeing everything again."

Recently, Edwards received an offer from Florida State and he was considering taking an official visit. He has made his decision on that, and appears to be on board with the Orange.

"At this point I'm probably not going to take a visit to Florida State," Edwards declared. "I'm just really sure of my decision to Syracuse. I'm pretty solid."
