Interest Picking Up For Chongo Kondolo

With the recent pickup in JUCO recruiting, the interest in a talented offensive lineman like Chongo Kondolo is expected. He gave an update on scheduled visits, who is interested, and where things currently stand with

JUCO recruiting has started to pick up as many of their seasons come to a close. One prospect who has been receiving a lot of interest is Fresno City College (CA) offensive tackle Chongo Kondolo. He describes himself as a physical tackle who has versatility.

"I believe I'm balanced," Kondolo offered. "I'm D-1 ready. I describe myself as D-1 physical. I'm more physical than the person in front of me. I make him do what I want him to do. That's all I try to do every time. I play to the whistle.

"I believe my strength is tackle but I can play guard. I played a little bit of guard my freshman year here. I can move anywhere on the line. My strength is tackle, but I can adjust to anything."

Kondolo's performance on the field has impressed many coaches from across the country. He currently holds several offers with additional interest from other schools.

"I have a lot of offers right now," Kondolo admitted. "I have offers from Grambling State, Charlotte, those are my D-1AA offers. I also have offers from Syracuse, Maryland, BYU and Illinois. I have interest from Nevada, Colorado State, and that's about it."

That interest has led to one official visit already. The Fresno City College product was able to check out the Illinois campus this past weekend. That visit left an impact and will play a role in Kondolo's final decision.

"I took an official visit to Illinois last weekend," he claimed. "It was good. I got to interact with the coaches and the players. Coaches had their families around every time we ate so I got to meet them. It was good to see that and interact with everybody. It really is like a family atmosphere there. That's what I like.

"They showed the academic part. They have strong academics at Illinois. That makes it really easy for you to succeed. You've just got to do your part."

The Illinois visit isn't the only one he has scheduled. He currently has committed to taking two other official visits. That would leave Kondolo with the ability to take two other official visits. He is currently waiting to see which schools would fill those final two slots.

"I have a visit to BYU this weekend," Kondolo said. "I have another visit to Maryland in January but the date hasn't been set yet. Other than that, I'm going to wait before I take my last two visits. I'm going to wait until January so I can know which schools I want to visit and what my options are."

One of the schools showing the most interest is Syracuse, who recently offered the 6-foot-4 tackle. So far, Kondolo likes what he knows about the Orange. He will continue to evaluate them as his recruitment picks up.

"Coach Greg Adkins is recruiting me from there," Kondolo claimed. "He's the o-line coach. I actually talked to him earlier today (Tuesday) so I've talked to him twice. I met with him twice and have talked to him quite a few times. He's a good o-line coach and that's what I look for with Syracuse. I know they have good academics as well and good facilities. That's what I'm looking for.

"I want good coaches so I can get better as a player and work on my technique. Coach Adkins can do that. I watched a few Syracuse games this year and liked what I saw. It's obvious he's a real good o-line coach and that shows in the players and how they play. I always look at that and he's a good o-line coach. That's what I like. If I had to schedule my two other visits right now Syracuse would definitely be one of them."

Adkins has tried to schedule a visit with Kondolo, who is considering taking that visit to Syracuse. Right now, the Orange are making it known they want the talented lineman.

"Yes we were talking about that earlier today," Kondolo recalled. "He said I just got to let him know. But he was telling me he wants me at Syracuse. He wants me to take a visit in January as well."

While he is taking his time to some extent, Kondolo knows what he is looking for in a school. That criteria will allow him to find the best fit on and off the field.

"Academics, the coaching, and then the atmosphere of the team," Kondolo outlined. "The feel of the football team really. I have to feel comfortable. The locker room and the coaches.

Kondolo plans on taking all five of his official visits and making his final decision shortly after the visits are complete.
