Linebackers coach/Special teams coordinator University of Florida
Durkin worked with Shafer at Stanford as his defensive ends coach when Shafer was the defensive coordinator. He has several years of experience as a defensive assistant and special teams coordinator at Stanford, Florida, and Bowling Green.
His relationship with Shafer and an upgrade in his title could be appealing to the up and coming coach. He has experience recruiting in big time programs, and his versatility as a special teams coordinator could be appealing to Syracuse.
Defensive backs coach Syracuse University
Henderson's first year on the Syracuse staff was 2012 where he worked closely with Shafer. He has experience as a defensive coordinator in the NFL for the New York Jets and Detroit Lions. He was also the defensive backs coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Arizona Cardinals.
Henderson is a well-respected coach who knows defense and the Shafer system. He would provide a seamless transition for the Orange.
Defensive coordinator Michigan State University
Pat Narduzzi is an up and coming coach that is well respected in college football. He has been an assistant at Rhode Island and Northern Illinois before becoming the defensive coordinator at Miami, Cincinnati, and now Michigan State. He worked with Scott Shafer at Northern Illinois.
He has ties to the New Jersey area. Narduzzi is also a good recruiter in the east and in Ohio. It is unclear whether he would take a lateral positional move to a lower program, but a strong relationship with Shafer could be a factor.
