Winfield Flips to Syracuse

Syracuse received its first wide receiver commitment in the 2013 class on Tuesday as Corey Winfield flipped to the Orange during an in-home visit from new head coach Scott Shafer.

The new Syracuse staff has been busy recruiting prospects new and old. One new prospect that had come onto the Orange radar of late is St. Louis (MO) wide receiver Corey Winfield.

Winfield loved his official to Syracuse this past weekend, but was not ready to commit until his parents had a chance to meet new head coach Scott Shafer. Shafer paid the Winfield family a visit on Tuesday, and it sealed the deal.

"Coach just left my house, and yes I did commit to Syracuse!" Winfield told via text. The 2-star prospect was previously committed to Northern Illinois.

The 6-foot-2 wideout is the 15th commitment in Syracuse's 2013 class. Winfield also has the distinction of being the first verbal commit in the Scott Shafer era.

Stay tuned to for more from Winfield.
