Proud to Be in Play

With the loss of a key player, teams undoubtedly struggle. Bearing the burden of the loss of Southerland, Syracuse went 4-2 in his absence. When he returned, he has come through when the Orange have needed him most. He speaks in the video inside.

While the Syracuse Orange have had adversity as a team, senior forward James Southerland had his own walls to overcome within those trying to hold the Orange back.

In the middle of the Syracuse season, Southerland was suspended pending an appeal for what turned out to be six games.

Just a year ago, the Orange lost former center Fab Melo in the regular season and got him back only to be without him once the NCAA Tournament began.

That, thankfully as far as Southerland is concerned, was not the case for him.

Knowing that any game can be his last, Southerland has elevated his play on both the offensive and defensive ends to aid the Orange in attaining one of the four most coveted spots in college basketball.
