"For me it's been a learning experience," Davis described. "You go from being the best player to really just fitting in. There's a lot of good players around me so I wouldn't say I'm the best player now.
"It's got me better because I'm playing against people who are up to my skill level who had offers. Everybody on my team from out of state pretty much had offers out of high school. So everybody's good and it's definitely raised the competition level."
Iowa Western held their spring game over the weekend, and Davis showcased his skills. However, he was not completely satisfied with his performance.
"The spring game, as a team, it went well," Davis said. "We got a lot accomplished. Me personally, I did pretty good in the beginning. Towards the middle I started to drift off because I got a thigh bruise and I couldn't really run.
"The coaches said I played good but me personally, I don't think I played that well. That's just expectations of myself."
Several division one programs were in attendance, scouting the talent on Iowa Western's roster. Syracuse was one of them.
"Honestly, it was just a watch thing," Davis explained. "They're not really allowed to talk to us. It was kind of a hi and bye. I guess they saw what they needed to see. I know they're recruiting some linemen too. Travis Zimmerman and DeAndre Herron."
Davis has been in touch with the Orange a little. But the coaching change has clouded the relationship in his mind.
"I really don't know right now," Davis admitted. "Up until this point I haven't been in much contact with them. A couple Facebook messages with George McDonald. I talked to him because he was looking at me at Miami. He just hits me up here and there to see how things are going."
Davis is up to two offers, but is hearing from a few other schools as well. His speed should allow him to continue to gain interest as the recruiting process progresses.
As interest in Davis picks up, he is looking to trim his list sooner rather than later. He's hopeful that more offers are right around the corner.
"I'd say kind of soon," Davis said. "Maybe like June or July. I've got my spring film and I'm just about to send that out. Once I send that out I know I'll have more offers."
