Syracuse is after some highly rated offensive linemen in 2014, including two four star JUCO prospects. However, there are other JUCO prospects on their radar as well. One of those is Iowa Western guard Travis Zimmerman who the Orange visited recently.
"It was the o-line coach (Pat Perles)," Zimmerman said. "He watched my film and came to watch our spring game. They told my coach that they're really interested in me and they're going to send me a bunch of information.
"They said they lost a bunch of guys and they're looking to bring in three or four linemen. They told my coach that they're really high on me and that they could be close to offering me."
This was not the first contact the 6-foot-3 interior lineman has had with the Orange. He says he is just starting to learn about the program and likes what he hears so far.
"I've been talking to them for a few weeks now," Zimmerman admitted. "I've talked to the new recruiting coordinator Eric White. I know that Syracuse had a good draft this year. They're a really good program and were in the Big East.
"They're starting to come on the rise it looks like. They're in a nice part of New York."
Zimmerman is up to three offers, each from FCS programs. However, several FBS programs are recruiting him as well. He is hoping offers will materialize from the schools at the highest level of college football.
"Some FCS schools have offered me like Northern Iowa, UC Davis and Idaho State," Zimmerman explained. "I've been talking to Syracuse, South Florida, North Carolina, Iowa State, Illinois State, Old Dominion and FIU.
"I don't have any favorites right now. I just want to take my time and make sure I find the right fit."
Zimmerman added that if Syracuse does offer, he will look to take a visit right away.
